For Birds, Planes
and Cellos
Miya Masaoko
This starts with an astonishing field recording of
just what the title indicates. Later, after the taping was done, Joan
Jeanrenaud (formerly of Kronos Quartet) added cello, making it even more
haunting. Cello, birds and planes may not seem like natural
co-accompanists but it all works splendidly well. This is a case where
New Music can get you to pay attention to the music inherent in the
random noises. It is curiously restful and capable of inducing a
rarified altered state. Mahvelous, mahvelous.
