Very good if not mind-blowing modernistic jazz. Not really anything that couldnít have been done 40 years ago, so itís maybe best to say itís modern-classical jazz. Groder is quite good, Mathews and Cole never lost touch, but itís Rivers who shines the most here even though heís not in the spotlight as much. Those like me who feel that mainstream jazz is in a rut may not be overwhelmed, but those who donít have that view will probably be very impressed indeed. In any case, Rivers is always worth listening to.
